DOX Centre for Contemporary Art
The DOX Centre for Contemporary Art in Prague seeks to blur the lines between an exhibition space and a learning environment.
With an approach that challenges preconceived notions and stimulates new experiences, DOX has embraced technology to enhance visitor engagement.
Challenge
Visitors needed to be engaged at a level that went beyond traditional museum experiences. The solution had to encourage personal interaction while supporting educational programs for students and teachers, integrating seamlessly with the provocative and explorative nature of the exhibits.
Solution
augg.io collaborated with DOX to develop an augmented reality (AR) guide enabling immersive visitor experiences. The AR platform, utilizing LiDAR scanning and virtual anchors, allowed for the creation of an interactive path led by a virtual guide - the alter ego of actor Petr Vančura.
Implementation
The AR experience was designed to be markerless, operating smoothly within the museum environment.
Virtual Petr Vančura served as a personal guide, questioning realities and presenting unseen "Platonic caves" through the visitor's mobile or tablet device.
The installation by Matěj Hájek and SKULL studio used "razzle dazzle" camouflage effects to disorient visitors, further enhanced by the AR guide.
Results
The AR experiences crafted on augg.io's platform enriched the learning programs for secondary school students and teachers.
The interactive installation added a layer of depth to the artwork, engaging visitors in a narrative about truth, stereotypes, and prediction errors.
The project supported DOX's educational aims, demonstrating the intersection of art and learning while setting the ground for future programs.
The collaboration between augg.io and DOX Centre achieved a higher level of visitor interaction, blending contemporary art with innovative educational tools. Through AR technology, augg.io helped DOX establish a unique environment where learning is as much an art as art is a learning experience.
